Disgraced, Former Nurse, Angela Rose Poynter, and a Direct Support Professional Assigned to the Victim, Reid Myles, Charged With Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult
Today, I learned a shocking and truly horrific report of extreme gross neglect of a vulnerable patient. Live 5 News by Colt Yeargin reported this atrocity, and I was genuinely shocked to my core.
The brief synopsis of the article states that allegedly disgraced former nurse Angela Rose Poynter, found the victim strapped into the toilet with his gastrostomy feeding tube leaking. Instead of taking action, Poynter wrapped towels around the tube while still administering medications. Poynter then waited for an hour until the next nurse shift change occurred. When Myles arrived, she left the victim for over an hour, breaking safety guidelines by not doing the mandated 5 minute check in’s. The victim was ultimately found to have fallen and landed in a squatting position on the floor while still strapped in on the toilet.

How does something like this happen in our society? How is there such a lack of compassion for a human being, particularly someone who is vulnerable? How can you become a nurse and treat people this way? There needs to be better vetting and oversight for the nurses who are being hired for any positions, especially ones such as this. We need a massive change in our selection of people who are actually passionate about healthcare and treating patients.
